149th Infantry, State Color/Regimental Color.  Composed of men from nine PA counties, the 149th was one of two "Bucktail" units recruited in August 1862, by Roy Stone, Colonel, who was originally major of the old Bucktails (42nd Infantry).  On October 21, 1862 the regiment received the state colors.  The regiment was mustered out of service on June 24, 1865.

Milton was fixing the roof of Centre Church when the troops marched by from Curwensville, he came down and joined the group and off to Clearfield and the war.

Hugh assisted in establishing American Independence, while acting in the capacity of private for six months in the Revolutionary Army in the Malitia.   He was at the Battle of Brandywine,   Germantown and other engagements.
